Biography
Michael Hermann Frei is an 18-year-old sim racer from Switzerland who has gained extensive experience in both endurance and sprint racing. Since his first encounters with real motorsport at the MX Academy by Chris Moeckli, the foundation for his racing journey was laid. In 2022, Michael spent a great deal of time on motocross tracks and in the simulator, gaining valuable insights and developing his skills.
In 2023, Michael had the opportunity to take part in several endurance races alongside experienced teammates, where he learned the importance of patience and striking at the right moment. In mid-2023, he was invited by Next Neo-n Racing to join their professional e-sports team. Together, Michael and Next Neo-n Racing were able to unlock their full potential and achieve consistent success.
The year 2024 was marked by regular top 10 finishes and strong championship results in the international sprint series (LFM Pro Series). In August 2024, Michael was able to showcase his talent for the first time in a real Porsche GT4. He successfully transferred the experience he had gained in sim racing to the real car and left a lasting impression with W&S Motorsport.
In 2025, Michael successfully completed his first real-life race weekend in the PCHC Series at the Nürburgring. After more than a year away from real racing, he took the wheel of a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport for Smyrlis Racing and delivered impressive performances right from the start. Despite challenging wet conditions in the first practice session, he quickly built confidence in the car and improved steadily throughout the weekend. In his first race, he finished third, and in the second race, after intense battles on track, he secured an excellent second place. With two podium finishes in his debut weekend, Michael proved that his sim racing experience translates effectively to real-world competition. This weekend marked a major milestone in his journey from sim racing to professional motorsport.
In the long term, Michael aims to earn a nomination for the Porsche Talent Pool to further advance his professional racing career. He also plans to step up to a Porsche Cup car in 2026 to contest a full racing season. Currently, Michael is actively seeking sponsors and partners to join him on this journey, with the shared goal of completing the transition from virtual to real racing.
